Posey ‘Good to Go,' Set for More Work

Buster Posey is, according to Bruce Bochy, "good to go," and is set to see more work soon.

Buster Posey's return is one of the reasons the Giants expect to be contenders in 2012 (and one of the reasons why Vegas likes the Giants to win the World Series).

And there's even more good news coming for Posey: he's been declared "good to go" by Bruce Bochy and will see more work soon.

"Watching him catch and throw and swing the bat, he's not showing any effects from his surgery," Bochy said, via Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area. "The way he pounced on that bunt ... he's good to go. Buster's fine.

"We'll start cranking it up a little bit here."

The bunt Bochy's referring to was against Gerardo Parra in a 4-3 Giants loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury-News described Posey coming out from behind the plate as "lightning fast" and says it's the

Posey, who recently hit his first home run of spring training, still hasn't caught back-to-back games, but it's coming soon. Tuesday's effort was six innings, which is the longest he's been behind the plate thus far this spring.

Baggs says back-to-back starts are "in his future," and it's a logical move for the Giants to get him back there now. Once they see how he responds to multiple starts in spring training (or, more accurately, how he responds after the second start), the team and the trainers and the coaching staff will be better able to gameplan for how often to use Posey behind the plate during the season.

Just don't expect it to happen on Wednesday -- he'll be DH'ing then as well. But keep an eye out for multiple Posey sessions behind the plate in the coming weeks.
