Trick-or-treat time at the famous San Jose attraction? It's on, for kids 12 and under, from Oct. 28 through 31, 2017, in the afternoon.

BACK WHEN YOU TRICK-OR-TREATED, was there that one amazing place, the house down the block that all the kids talked about? The casa with the spookiest decorations, the biggest candy bars, the most picturesque decorations, or the weirdest lighting? Calling upon it always offered a thrill, even if you didn't get to leave with your favorite lollipops or caramels.

WHAT IF... you paused to widened your notion of what a neighborhood means, to all of California, and then you tried to pinpoint what might be the coolest house to take your tots to during a trick-or-treating run? Would the Winchester Mystery House, in San Jose, be on your wish list? Be gladdened, then, and feel a little phantom-eerie, for what's deemed to be one of the most haunted houses around is opening up trick-or-treating to kids ages 12 and under for four afternoons only. Those afternoons begin on...

SATURDAY, OCT. 28... and wrap on Halloween night 2017, which is Oct. 31, a Tuesday. True, the massive abode has offered trick-or-treating in the past, but that was a bit more casual, and open to grown-ups, and held in conjunction with those visitors doing the nighttime Flashlight Tour. This brand-new trick-or-treat event is all about the young'uns, and it is free, and it is a daytime thing, happening from 2 to 6 o'clock. That's right, we said "free" before, though do not this does not, repeat, does not include admission to the Winchester Mystery House, so take note.

YOU AND YOUR KIDS... will be able to visit a trio of treat stations around Sarah Winchester's exquisite Victorian-style gardens, which shall be "festively decorated." Also? Treat bags shall be given out. Also? Wearing a costume is copacetic, as is the trick-or-treating tradition. Is the Winchester Mystery House the very neatest, most fabled house in your neighborhood, if you included all of California in your neighborhood? Yeah, it just might be, and absolutely when the days before the hauntingest occasion of the calendar arrives.
