Monte Francis joined NBC Bay Area as a general assignment reporter in 2006 – working primarily on the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Monte began his journalism career at WSTM in Syracuse, NY where he produced the stations 5 and 5:30 p.m. newscasts. He then moved cross-country to become a reporter for KSEE in Fresno, CA where he covered high profile court stories including the Cary Stayner, Scott Peterson, and Marcus Wesson murder cases.
In addition to awards from the Associated Press for his news writing, Monte has won two Emmys – the first for an in-depth series of reports on how people survive tragedy, and the second for a series on how California’s “Three Strikes” law has affected the criminal justice system.
Monte is a graduate of the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and has a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from California State University Fresno.
In his free time Monte loves to travel, play the piano, and walk his dogs on the beach. He’s also an author, his first book By Their Father’s Hand: The True Story of the Wesson Family Massacre, was published by HarperCollins in 2007.
