Reach Out and Touch God

Dutch artist allows callers to leave message for God

Life got you down Bay Area? Why not give God a call. We're not talking about raising your hands in the middle of the night and whispering a hushed cry for help. But instead, the supreme being is taking calls. Kind of, sort of anyway.

The zany Dutch artist Johan van der Dong has set up a local telephone number in the Netherlands, where people from across the world can call and leave God a voice mail.

Van der Dong told Reuters that "he set up the number to give people an opportunity to take pause and contemplate life."

From the Bay Area callers can dial +316-4424-4901 and they will hear, "Hi, you are speaking to God. I'm not in right now so leave a message after the beep."

If you happen to be reading this in the Netherlands you can simply dial 06-4424-4901to leave van der Dong, who is not claiming to be God for the record but instead offering a service, a message.

"Like praying, leaving a voice mail message is a way to organize your thoughts," he told Reuters. "It's a perfect combination for some contemplation."

If you don't feel like spending up to 10 cents a minute to call the Netherlands, we guess you could go back to the old fashion model of simply raising your hands to reach out to God. Maybe someone should tell van der Dong about Facebook, or Twitter or maybe even email.
