Eliana Lopez is expected to take the stand Wednesday evening in the official misconduct proceedings surrounding her husband, suspended San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, according to reports.
Lopez flew in from Venezuela to testify. She has been in her native country for some time following the charges filed against her husband, who Mayor Ed Lee is attempting to remove from office.
Mirkarimi pleaded guilty to false imprisonment after he was charged with domestic abuse for grabbing his wife's arm during an argument at their home on Dec. 31. Lopez has issued public statements supporting her husband, and has called the Ethics Commission removal proceedings politically-motivated.
The hearing begins at 5 p.m.
Lopez has also distanced herself from neighbor Ivory Madison, who filmed a tearful Lopez showing her bruised right arm and detailing fights with her husband. Madison gave the video to police against Lopez's wishes, it was reported, and Madison has since become a key figure in the removal of Mirkarimi from office.
The couple have a young son, Theo.

Mirkarimi was blasted by victims-rights advocates for initially dismissing the charges as a "family matter."
