200-Year-Old Tree's Limbs Crash Next to South Bay Home

A man in the South Bay is counting his blessings after narrowly avoiding a 200-year-old tree's branches that came crashing down next to his house.

San Jose resident Joe Olstad said that he was resting in his bedroom overnight when pieces of oak timber smashed into his backyard, damaging parts of his home.

Arborists believe that the tree's limbs sucked in extra water during last week's heat wave, causing the branches to collapse under the new weight.

The tree, which is rooted on Fullerton Drive, will be taken down because its branches are hanging over neighboring homes.
