DONATE: Monterey County Holding Holiday Teddy Bear Drive for Children in Need

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is collecting teddy bears and stuffed animals to donate to needy children during the holidays.

The bears will be given to children who otherwise might not receive a gift during the holiday season, according to the sheriff's office.

The annual teddy bear drive was initially established so patrol deputies could collect teddy bears to give to children involved in traumatic events to help comfort them, sheriff's officials said.

In addition, the coroner's office hands out the bears to children who are present when death notifications are made.

Teddy bears, other stuffed animals and cash donations will be accepted at the four sheriff's office locations in Monterey County through Dec. 31.
