Fresh Powder Alert: Sierra Nevada Registers More Than One Foot of Snowfall

A storm that swept through the Bay Area Saturday and early Sunday dumped up to one foot or more of snow in some Sierra Nevada locations, much to the delight of skiers and snowboarders.

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows reported registering 15 inches of new snow while Northstar packed 12 inches to its mid-mountain level. Heavenly reported anywhere from nine to 16 inches of fresh powder in some spots as of 6 a.m. Sunday, but the resort believes that number could increase.

A winter weather warning that expired at 10 a.m. Sunday informed residents that anywhere from eight to 12 inches of snow could fall above 4,000 feet thanks to the weekend precipitation.

Back in the Bay Area, Sunday is expected to bring sunny skies and temperatures topping out in the high 50s to low 60s. Another storm moving in could bring early morning showers to the area Monday.
