Police in Santa Cruz are investigating the shooting death of a man along the levee path of the San Lorenzo River.
The Santa Cruz Police Department said officers responded to a report of a shooting on the levee pathway Tuesday and found a man with a gunshot wound to the torso.
The unidentified man died at the scene. Officials said his identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
The department said witnesses told police two men were arguing just before one of them shot the other. The shooter then fled the area on foot.
Santa Cruz police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said both men are transients and the shooter is known to police.
A motive in the shooting has not been determined.
