Melissa Huckaby's Family Speaks Out

Melissa Huckaby's family spoke out exclusively on the Today show Friday morning.

Her family said Huckaby expresses "true remorse" for killing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu in April 2009.

They say Huckaby she a normal girl growing up but that changed after a police officer raped her when she was 19.

Huckaby's parents say they were not able to speak openly with their daughter about the case until she was sentenced last month. Her father says Huckaby never got adequate treatment for psychological issues and that the family is still at a loss for her motive in the killing.
