OPD Release Images of Possible Vandalism Suspect

Oakland police issued a few photographs and a short video clip on Thursday in the hopes of identifying the suspects responsible for the vandalism incurred over the last week since George Zimmerman was acquitted in the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teen in Florida.

From Saturday, when the verdict was announced, to Wednesday night, protests throughout the country have cropped up including in Oakland, where windows were broken, stores trashed, flags burned, fires lit and a waiter was injured at Flora restaurant, among other acts of vandalism.

Police were not specific about when these photos were taken or what damage specifically they were referring to when they released a photograph of an African-American man wearing a gray hoodie and red baseball cap riding a bike. A short video they released showed what appears to be the same man kicking a silver car in what looks like is the city's Uptown district. He give the silver car a quick shove with his foot, denting the right back rear of the car.

Police said they hoped that they hope the public will recognize the clothing and other identifiable characteristics that lead to the arrest and prosecution of the persons responsible.

Also, they asked that if anyone has their own video surveillance, photos or information about people responsible for vandalism during the protests on Saturday through Wednesday nights, they should contact Sgt. Clifford Wong at (510)238-3951 or via email cwong@oaklandnet.com.
