A police officer was injured when a suspect driving a stolen vehicle rammed his patrol vehicle early Tuesday morning in Hercules, a police spokeswoman said.

The exact time and location of the incident weren't immediately available, according to Detective Connie Van Putten. The officer was preparing to conduct a felony stop on a stolen vehicle when it slowed down and then went into reverse, striking the front of the officer's vehicle.

The suspect fled east on state Highway 4, and the vehicle was later found in the area of a local ranch.

Hercules police requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol and at least one neighboring agency, but the driver was not located. Police believe there are still two suspects at large who are wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The officer who was rammed is at home Tuesday, and appears to be OK, according to Van Putten. Details about the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

Van Putten said she plans to release additional information about the case later Tuesday morning.
