A search for a suspect who police said fired a weapon at an officer prompted street closures in Oakland early Friday.
The officer was not struck in the incident, police said.
Officers and a SWAT team searched for hours in the area of the area of 23rd Avenue and 17th Street, near Garfield Park, before calling the search off just before 8 a.m. A gun was recovered during the investigation, police said.
The incident started at 3 a.m. when an officer was in a foot pursuit of a suspect, who then turned toward the cop and "discharged a firearm."
No other information was immediately available.
