The Raiders needed to be perfect Sunday to beat the Chiefs, but were far from it, committing three turnovers.
Still, Oakland gave Kansas City a scare, scoring two consecutive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cut the Chiefs’ margin to just three points before eventually falling, 40-33.
In the end, three lost fumbles – by running backs Doug Martin, DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard – and a late touchdown drive by Kansas City with under two minutes to play, handed the Raiders another loss.
Oakland is now 2-10, while the Chiefs continue to roll along at 10-2.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was brilliant against the Raiders, throwing for four TDs and 295 yards while also rushing for 55 yards.
Oakland’s offense, meanwhile, played one of its best games of the season. Derek Carr was 29-of-38 for 285 yards and three TDs without an interception, Richard ran for 95 yards and tight end Jared Cook had seven catches for 100 yards and a TD.
Carr on Sunday moved past Rich Gannon to become the No. 2 QB in Raiders history in passing yards, with close to 18,000. Ken Stabler (19,078) is No. 1.

But, the Raiders’ turnovers proved fatal.
The Chiefs turned the Raiders’ first two lost fumbles into field goals in the first half, then converted the third into a touchdown and a 33-16 lead in the third quarter. That was a total of 13 points off Oakland mistakes.
Oakland rallied in the fourth quarter to make it a one-score game, on a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard TD pass from Carr to Lee Smith, and a six-play, 54-yard drive that culminated with Carr’s 9-yard strike to Marcell Ateman.
But, the Chiefs sealed the victory when Oakland’s defense couldn’t make a stop on a 10-play, 75-yard, clock-eating drive that put the Chiefs up by 10 points with 1:54 remaining on Mahomes’ 2-yard TD pass to Chris Conley.
A 44-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson got the Raiders within seven points, but with 30 seconds left, Oakland couldn’t get the ball back to take another shot.
The Raiders will return to action next Sunday at O.co Coliseum against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
