Former San Jose Gymnastics Club Burned

The gymnastics club fire is deemed suspicious.

Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze Monday morning at the former Almaden Valley Gymnastics Club  in South San Jose.

The club, at 19600 Almaden Road, was empty and no one was injured, according to firefighters. There was no indication on how or why it started. But they did deem it suspicious: the building was empty and surrounded by a fence. The flames and smoke were first reported just before 4 a.m.

Firefighters had a busy weekend. On Sunday morning, they battled a four-alarm blaze that tore through townhomes in North San Jose, and on Sunday night, the helped put out a three-alarm blaze on Murtha Drive that displaced a family of ten. At least half a dozen puppies died in that fire.
