Police Continue Illegal Gambling Busts in San Jose

Police on Wednesday raided a downtown San Jose business in connection with illegal gambling.

Officers confiscated five slot machines and a surveillance monitor from the Family Wash and Dry business, about two block from San Jose City Hall.

Wednesday's raid comes after police arrested five people Tuesday in connection to illegal gaming and other crimes.

Police on Tuesday confiscated 13 illegal gaming machines, a stolen car and found evidence of identity theft in raids on a home and store.

Sometime between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday, patrol officers, assisted by SWAT team officers, executed search and arrest warrants at a home at 2890 Bouveron Court, a block east of South White Road in East San Jose, San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said.

Officers found three illegal gaming machines in the home and five people, three males and two females, living there, Morales said.

Police also located evidence of identify theft inside the home and recovered a reported stolen vehicle parked at the property, according to Morales.

The five people, whose names were not immediately available, were arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal gaming machines and the stolen vehicle. Some also had outstanding arrest warrants, he said.

One of the suspects was found to have ties to the Merienneth convenience store at 3161 Senter Road in South San Jose and officers used a search warrant to enter it.

Inside, police located and took away 10 illegal gaming machines and recovered additional evidence of identity theft, Morales said.

Some of the suspects could be arrested on suspicion of other crimes once an investigation into the identity theft evidence is completed, he said.
