Stanford Launches Own Health Plan

Students and employees of school -- all 50,000 of them -- have new health option.

Stanford employees won't have to go far to find a new healthcare plan.

The university will offer healthcare coverage to its 15,000 employees, with a potential 50,000 people eligible for coverage, according to the Business Journal.

Stanford Healthcare Alliance will be a self-funded PPO, the newspaper reported, and will offer enrollees coverage with doctors in Santa Clara and in San Mateo.

Enrollment data is not available -- but it could all be a test plan for Stanford's own healthcare business, open to outsiders.
