Teacher Facing Child Porn and Burglary Charges Set for Arraignment

Richard Styner allegedly showed a naked picture of himself to students at San Leandro High

A San Leandro High School teacher facing child pornography and  burglary charges is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Alameda  County Superior Court in Hayward.

Richard Styner, 45, was charged May 7 with possession of child  pornography and residential burglary after school officials contacted police  about an incident in his class in which he allegedly showed students a nude  photo of himself.

According to court documents, on April 16, Styner was teaching  students how to transfer pictures from electronic devices when he suddenly  displayed a photo of himself unclothed.

Styner later told school administrators that he had not intended  to show the photo, according to a probable cause statement filed in court.

A subsequent search of his computer turned up hundreds of  pornographic stories, including one about a 14-year-old girl having sex with  her brother that was accompanied by a photo of an underage girl, the document  stated.

The burglary charge stems from an incident in October 2012 in  which prosecutors allege Styner entered the home of a female friend who had  given him a key for emergencies, photographed her underwear and other items  and took some clothing.

San Leandro Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Cathey  has previously said the district is conducting its own investigation into the  incident.

Styner, a San Leandro resident, is scheduled to appear in  Department 502 at 2 p.m. in the Hayward Hall of Justice, located at 24405  Amador Drive.
