Three Arrested in Deadly Double Shooting in Richmond

Police say the shooting was caused by a "narcotics transaction gone awry."

Richmond police have arrested three men in connection with a double shooting that left one man dead and another injured on Monday, and said the crime was prompted by a drug deal that went south.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired at about 10:50 p.m. at La Moine Park at 3501 Morningside Drive. They found the two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Richmond police.

One of the men, 21-year-old Eric Brown of Richmond, died at the scene. The other man, a 19-year-old Rodeo resident, was shot "in his lower extremities" and is recovering, police said.

Detectives investigating the shooting followed up on leads and collected evidence, which indicated that Monday's shooting was a random, isolated incident. Police said that the shooting "was a case of a narcotics transaction gone awry."

On Tuesday, police arrested Karmani Ely, 19, of San Pablo, and Anthony Tolliver, 22, and Richard Taylor, 19, both of Richmond, in connection with Brown's death. They also recovered weapons used in the shooting.

The trio has been charged with murder and robbery, police said.

Police called the shooting a "senseless crime" and said they hope the suspects' arrests will offer a modicum of "closure and comfort" to Brown's family.
