Victim in East Oakland Shooting at Birthday Party Dies

A man who was shot and gravely wounded at a birthday party in East Oakland on Friday night has died from his injuries, a police officer said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of 96th Avenue at about 11:10 p.m., Oakland police Officer J. Moore said.

When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time after 1 a.m., Moore said.

No suspect information was available and no arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting.

This is Oakland's 88th homicide this year, well below last year's number of 131 homicides at this time last year.
