An autopsy conducted on the body of an Alamo teenager who died in Danville late Sunday night after he jumped onto his friend's moving sport utility vehicle and slipped off showed that he was run over, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.
Justin Deyoung, 19, was standing near the intersection of Del Amigo and Glen roads just before midnight when a Toyota Sequoia filled with several of his friends pulled up to him, Danville Police Chief Steve Simkins said.
His friends told him where they were going so he could meet them there, and the Sequoia began to pull away. Deyoung then apparently decided at the last minute to try to jump onto the side of the SUV and ride along with it but fell, Simkins said.
The driver called 911, and emergency responders pronounced Deyoung dead at the scene.
Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident.
An autopsy completed Monday found that Deyoung died from head injuries and blunt force trauma from falling from a moving vehicle and being run over, a deputy coroner said.
