Average San Francisco Wedding Costs Compared to National Averages

Millennials often receive flack for pushing off marriage later than the previous generations, but it seems there may be a reason why.

Expensive prices are no stranger to San Francisco, and weddings are no exception.

According to the wedding publication The Knot, an average wedding in San Francisco nowadays costs $39,329, about $6,000 more than the national average.

The Knot argues that this is not because couples care less about spending cash on their big day, but rather because they care more about making their nuptials personal and intimate.

"We're seeing fewer formal and black-tie weddings — which are naturally pricier — as couples choose to tie the knot in nontraditional locations that let their unique story shine, require fewer embellishments and call for a smaller budget," reads the survey result.

One may be surprised to find out that San Francisco is actually one of the cheaper places to get married in the country.

In Los Angeles, weddings cost an average of $44,142, in New Orleans, $41,187, in New Jersey, $62,074 and in Manhattan, an astounding $76,944.

In fact, three of the top five most expensive places to get married lie in New York: in Westchester, $55,357, in Long Island, $61,113 and in Manhattan, $76,944.

Feel relieved Bay Area, nearly all of the eleven most expensive places to get married reside on the east coast.
