Bay Area Stars Promise That Help Is on the Way

This weekend was all about striking out AIDS in San Francisco.

Hundreds of people attended the Help is on the Way fundraiser to help fund research to find a cure for the deadly disease Sunday night.

San Francisco native and 89-year-old actress, Carol Channing was among the stars at an evening concert and silent auction at the Herbst Theater. She was joined by James Darren of "Star Trek" fame and Kimberly Locke of "American Idol."

Organizers say they expected to raise about $100,000 and raise awareness while they were at it.

"There's a lot of people that don't have the resources to get the medication," one organized said. "You know, the people who need it the most are the ones who have the hardest time getting it make sure that they have the services they need."

The money from the fundraiser goes to four different AIDS charities in the Bay Area. A second memorial will take place Sept. 20 at the Marines Memorial Theatre.
