Bikini Bar Arrives in Downtown San Jose

The Gold Club is in business.

Gentlemen and ladies, the Gold Club is now open in San Jose.

The tenth largest city in America is now home to a "downtown bikini bar," with swimsuit-clad women dancing a "respectful" distance away from paying patrons in a former bank building in San Jose's downtown, according to the Mercury News.

The Gold Club's impending arrival set off a flurry of legislating from City Councilmember Sam Liccardo, who said that Silicon Valley was no place for such an establishment. But the bikini bar's "soft opening" Thursday appeared to go off without a hitch, the newspaper reported.

No nudity is allowed, per city ordinance. There's also no contact between dancers and patrons allowed.

The Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce also voiced its displeasure at the club's existence.

Things were quiet early Thursday, according to the newspaper, which was told that things would get busy "after sundown." Some men were denied entry for baggy clothes and went instead to the Brass Rail in Sunnyvale, while others at nearby bars said that a new business in downtown would help bring people to other establishments.
