‘Falling Boulders” Shuts Down Niles Canyon in Fremont: Police

Niles Canyon Road (State Route 84) was down Monday afternoon due to falling boulders, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Caltrans crews eventually cleared the area and reopened the road. No collisions or injuries were reported, police said.

Niles Canyon Road in Alameda County had to shut down earlier in the morning due to mudslides. The CHP said the mudslide was first reported around 3:05 a.m. on the roadway just east of Palomares Road, and caused at least one traffic collision.
