Sunnyvale Department of Safety officers arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of drinking and driving after they saw he rammed his car into the gas meter of a home, prompting an evacuation of the nearby residences.
Officers did not identify the suspect, but said that crews raced to a house in the 500 block of Borregas Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Thursday after a car smashed into the side of the house. One person was hurt inside the house, but declined a transfer to the hospital. The driver also refused to go to the hospital, officials said.
The car hit a gas meter, prompting PG&E to turn off the gas about 12:45 a.m. Friday.
