Emergency personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard, San Jose Fire Department and Menlo Park Fire Protection District were working to rescue two passengers on a disabled boat in the Alviso Marina in San Jose Sunday afternoon, according to a Coast Guard official.
Lt. Jared Hood said the Coast Guard responded to a report of a stranded 17-foot boat around 1:30 p.m.
The southern part of the bay has a lot of areas with shallow water that Coast Guard boats can't easily access, Hood said.
The San Jose and Menlo Park fire departments have smaller rescue boats and as of around 4:30 p.m., Hood said they were en route to the two stranded passengers.
Hood said he wasn't sure why the boat was disabled and said no one on the boat reported any injuries.
"We've been in cell phone communication with them throughout," Hood said. "They don't have a GPS or a marine radio, a lot of the things we advise mariners to set out with to help in a situation like this."
