A 46-year-old man involved in a deadly crash on Highway 4 has been arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The head-on collision involving a Honda SUV and Toyota Corolla was reported at 4:34 p.m. Monday on the highway in Brentwood, east of Balfour Road. The crash shut down both directions of Highway 4 for hours while emergency crews responded and police investigated.
Police said the Honda drove across solid double yellow lines and into oncoming traffic, crashing head-on into the Toyota.
The man in police custody was driving the Honda and is identified as a Concord resident. He was not injured in the crash, police said.
The driver of the Toyota was the only occupant of the car and was identified as a 51-year-old man from Ripon. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Highway 4 reopened at 6:25 p.m.
