A preliminary 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning just southeast of Gilroy, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, which hit at 9:08 a.m., was centered about 5.7 miles southeast of Gilroy and about 14.4 miles southeast of Morgan Hill, the USGS said.
The temblor had a depth of only about 2.5 miles, according to USGS data.
