First Look at a Motorola Tablet Running Android 3.0 Honeycomb

All eyes may have been on the Google Nexus S and Android 2.3 Gingerbread announcement yesterday, but that didn't stop Motorola from busting out a prototype tablet running the next version of Android — 3.0 a.k.a. Honeycomb.

If you thought Google polished Android in 2.3 Gingerbread, then you haven't seen anything yet. Android 3.0 will be the first version of Android that will be optimized for tablets. That's right, Android tablets going forward won't feel like giant smartphones (we're looking at you Galaxy Tab).

As you can see in the video, running on a prototype Motorola tablet, Android 3.0 looks like it will bring refinements to the lock screen, include some new UI elements, better widget support and revamp Google Maps. Speculation is abound that the tablet is somewhere in the 8 to 9-inch range with a resolution of about 1024 x 600.

Cost for the prototype tablet? Andy Rubin, Google vice president of engineering says, "like literally $10,000."
