A Fremont woman recently took home the grand prize in an annual screenwriting contest put on by The WriteRoom, according to the Fremont Bulletin.
Carol Lee Hall, a freelance writer and past president of Fremont Area Writers, wrote a screenplay about Donaldina Cameron, the "Angel of Chinatown."
Cameron was a Presbyterian minister who rescued thousands of women from indentured servitude in San Francisco's Chinatown during the early 20th century, according to the newspaper.
Hall won $1,000 along with the prize.
