Hit-and-Run Leaves 1 Dead in San Jose; Driver At-Large: Police

San Jose police are searching for the driver and vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian Wednesday night at the intersection of Monterey Road and Curtner Avenue.

At about 8:35 p.m., officers responded to the scene just south of downtown where a woman using a walker had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Monterey Road. The investigation determined the driver fled, police said.

Police had no immediate information on the vehicle or driver involved.

Northbound Monterey Road was shut down for hours during the investigation and reopened at about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The crash marks the city’s 15th traffic fatality of 2021.
