New Station, Lanes for Bikers Coming Soon

Upgrades for bikers in Berkeley and San Francisco are imminent

Bay Area bikers have a lot ot be excited about these days: a new bicycle station near the Downtown Berkeley BART will open later this year, and a host of bike upgrades in San Francisco will begin in a few weeks.

The new Berkeley facility will offer bike repairs, rentals, classes, and showers. It will accommodate over 200 bikes, more than twice the capacity of the Embarcadero facility.

On June 25, the San Francisco Municipal Transit agency is expected to okay a long-delayed plan to extend the city's bike lanes and add a number of other bike-friendly amenities.

Officials said that the city will begin implementing plans a few days after the plan is approved.
