Love Scam Snatches Thousands of Dollars from South Bay Women

Heartbreaking endings to promising love stories have left several South Bay women short by thousands of dollars.

Police say that a South Bay man, identified as Joel Huynh, scammed at least seven women into loaning him more than $200,000 before he darted off with the cash.

The money-snatching escapades, which occured between March 2014 and August 2015, began when Huynh disguised himself on social networking websites as a friendly man looking for love, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

After gaining the females' trust, Huynh reportedly pled for emergency financial assistance. The unsuspecting women coughed up the cash and Huynh would take off, deleting his accounts and leaving no trace behind him.

Huynh faces significant time behind bars if he is convicted of the 15 charges of grand theft and passing a bad check that are locked to his name, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
