Man Fatally Shot at Santa Clara House Party Moved to Bay Area From Mexico 2 Months Ago

A 22-year-old man fatally shot during a party in Santa Clara over the weekend was identified Friday as Mario Hernandez, a police spokesman said.

Hernandez lived in the Bay Area for two months after moving from Mexico and does not have a criminal history, police Lt. Kurt Clarke said.

On Sunday shortly before 1 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Glade Drive, Clarke said. The block is just north of Monroe Street and Adrian Wilcox High School.

Arriving officers learned of a party at a home and found the victim, later identified as Hernandez, shot in the backyard, according to police. The officers performed CPR on Hernandez but were unable to revive him, police said.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call police Sgt. Derek Rush at (408) 615-4814.
