Wise Sons Deli, a popular eatery in San Francisco's Mission District, had its main kitchen and offices destroyed in the massive fire Wednesday that gutted a building, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The deli had been preparing for weeks to start distributing bagels prior to a four-alarm erupting at a building on Mission and 22nd streets. One person died in the blaze, which also displaced about 60 others. Damage is estimated at over $8 million, according to the Chronicle.
The business was able to save some key ingredients: a starter for rye that's five years old, and a smoker.
