Visitors to Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley have two more years to endure the parking and traffic nightmares that currently plague the popular spot before the system changes to one that should help ease congestion.
According to SFGate, reservations to drive or take a bus to Muir Woods will be required by 2017, with parking along the main road to be eliminated by 2022. The new system will not affect people arriving on foot.
The National Park Service hopes that the changes will alleviate congestion, with visitors projected to drop from 6,000 to 4,500 people per day during the peak season, which runs from April to October.
Muir Woods offers guided walks and hikes each month; highlights of July's calendar include a sunrise tour (July 26) and an after-hours exploration (July 31).
While these excursions are free, park entrance fees, which will rise from $7 to $10 in 2016, are required.
