Man in North Bay Bites Brother Before Fleeing, Injuring Officer During Police Chase

A man was arrested in Santa Rosa Saturday after a fight with his brother, followed by a police chase in which he injured an officer, Rohnert Park police said.

Officers responded to reports of a fistfight between 49-year-old Daniel Packett and his brother in the 5700 block of Dexter Circle, in Rohnert Park.

During the fight, Packett bit his brother and vandalized his brother's motorcycle, police said.

When officers arrived, Packett was seen fleeing across Foxtail Golf Club and east on Golf Course Drive in a Ford pickup truck.

Officers determined that Packett has an outstanding no-bail arrest warrant for a probation violation.

Police tried to make a traffic stop on Packett in the area of Santa Rosa and Mountain View avenues, but he drove north on Santa Rosa Avenue.

Officers drove at a speed of 90 mph to pursue Packett, who sped into the parking lot of the Tower Mart on the corner of Santa Rosa Avenue and Todd Road, police said.

Packett then tried to drive south on Santa Rosa Avenue, but crashed into a police car.

Packett was taken into custody and was being treated for minor injuries at a hospital as of 5:18 p.m. Saturday.

The officer with whom Packett collided was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Packett is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and several illegal drugs, police said.

Packett will be booked into Sonoma County Jail for the outstanding arrest warrant, and on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing injury, driving on a suspended driver's license, felony battery and vandalism.
