A pedestrian died Thursday after being pinned between a parked car and a work truck that was backing into a driveway in San Jose, police said.
The collision happened at about 8 a.m. along the 1200 block of Lennon Way, according to police.
Citing a preliminary investigation, police said a man driving the work truck pulled up to a house that is under construction to unload supplies. As the truck driver began to reverse, he hit a car that had stopped behind him, continued reversing into the driveway and then hit the pedestrian, pinning the pedestrian between the back of the truck and a parked car in the driveway.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The pedestrian's identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office following identification and notification of next of kin.
The truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities, police said. He did not display any signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
This marks the 30th deadly collision and 32rd traffic death in San Jose this year, police said. It's also the 18th pedestrian fatality.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Detective O'Brien (#3527) of the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit at 3527@sanjosesca.gov or 408-277-4654.
