An Oakland child is undergoing HIV and hepatitis treatments after pricking his finger on a syringe he found while digging in the dirt at a playground.
Oakland schools spokesperson Troy Flint said this happened on April 25 at the Highland Children's Center and that the medical treatments are a precaution only.
Flint said the school is taking preventative measures to insure the lot is cleaned better including a daily sweep of the playground by the custodial staff.
He said the district is sending out a letter to parents today. Some parents said they were upset that the district took more than a week to inform other parents.
