Teen Homicide Suspects Caught on Peninsula

A teenage couple wanted in connection with an El Dorado County murder were taken into custody near a Red Lobster restaurant in San Bruno  this morning.

Steven Paul Colver, 19, and Tylar Marie Witt, 14, are suspected of murdering Witt's mother in her El Dorado Hills home, El Dorado sheriff's Sgt.  Jim Byers said.

The body of Joanne M. Witt, 47, was found in the home Monday after her friends told authorities she hadn't shown up to work, Byers said.

He said investigators identified Colver and Tylar Witt as the suspects early Tuesday morning.

"The only motive that we're working is the relationship between Tylar and Steven," he said today, implying the mom disapproved of them  dating.

San Francisco police found Colver's vehicle later Tuesday in the 500 block of O'Farrell Street in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood.

The vehicle was illegally parked and "would have been towed like any other car would have been towed," Byers said.

Police had also conducted a search warrant at a hotel in San Francisco, but Byers said, "I have been directed not to discuss what was  discovered in the room."

The suspects were considered armed and dangerous.

The hotel was believed to be the Holiday Inn on Van Ness Avenue.

A concierge, who knew the teens' description and was familiar with the story, said she heard they were at the hotel but was not allowed to talk  about it.

Police were patrolling the neighborhood this morning and questioning people in surrounding businesses.

Byers said the sheriff's office will hold a news conference in El Dorado Hills at 3 p.m. today regarding the arrest and any further updates.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office at 530-621-6600.
