San Francisco ‘Landlords From Hell' Reach Plea Deal

San Francisco’s so-called "landlords from hell” have reached a plea deal and will be headed to state prison,  District Attorney George Gascón announced Wednesday.
Kip Macy, 38, and wife Nicole Macy, 37, each pleaded guilty to four felony counts and will be sentenced to almost 4 1/2 years in prison for the charges related to terrorizing their tenants.

The Macys bought a three-story, six-unit apartment building on Clementina Street in San Francisco's South of Market district in 2005.

Prosecutors say, in an effort to get their five tenants to move out,  the Macys stole from them, vandalized their apartments and even cut off electricity.

“The actions of these defendants are so outlandish and brazen that it sounds like the plot line of a horror movie,” Gascón said in a press release.

The Macys are accused of cutting holes in the floor of a tenant’s living room with a power saw while he was inside his apartment, according to the release. The Macys also allegedly cut multiple sections out of the joists below another tenant’s floor, in an apparent attempt to make the floor collapse while people were standing on it.

The couple was arrested in 2008, but then skipped town, hiding out in Italy after posting bail.

The Macys were taken into custody last year and extradited back to the United States last month.
Officials say their sentence counts as two strikes under the “Three Strikes” law in California.
The attorney for Nicole Macy says she is extremely sorry and remorseful.
