Two busy streets in San Rafael will be closed on consecutive weekends starting Friday while the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit district starts construction on the extension of rail line to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal.
Second Street will be closed from Tamalpais Avenue to Hetherton Street from 8 p.m. Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday and reopen Monday at 4 a.m.
Third Street will be closed from Hetherton Street to Tamalpais Avenue from 8 p.m. June 7, all day June 8 and 9, and will reopen at 4 a.m. June 10.
Businesses in the area will remain open during the construction work and detour signs will redirect traffic. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be allowed in the construction area.
