The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is offering special adoption prices for kittens and cats through the end of the month, according to shelter officials.
Because of a high volume of cats and kittens, shelter officials want to ensure that the pets are offered a second chance at a "forever home."
According to the shelter, normal adoption fees for felines range from $55 to $120, but with the July special, those wishing to adopt can get kittens under a year old for $60, adult cats for $35 and senior cats over the age of 6 for $20.
"Adopting a shelter animal not only saves a life, it also opens up precious space in our shelters for Santa Cruz County's neediest animals," Melanie Sobel, general manager for the shelter, said in a statement.
Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, initial worming and vaccinations, rabies vaccine for felines over three months, microchipping, feline leukemia virus testing for kittens over six months and a cardboard cat carrier.
