Alameda County sheriff's deputies have arrested two suspects in a fatal shooting of a man stopped at an intersection in unincorporated Hayward on Wednesday afternoon, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The victim was stopped in his red Dodge pickup truck on southbound Meekland Avenue while waiting to make a left turn onto Blossom Way when a gunman, reportedly a passenger in another vehicle, approached and shot him at about 1 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly said.
Deputies responded and shut down the intersection, where the victim was pronounced dead.
The gunman fled the scene on foot along some nearby railroad tracks, sheriff's officials said. Sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter and used dogs and a helicopter to search for the gunman. He was detained a short time later and arrested.
The woman driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested a few hours later.
"Whether this is just random gang or gun violence, we don't know," Kelly said. "Whether this was specifically targeted, we don't know."
The intersection of Blossom and Meekland was closed for several hours as investigators processed the crime scene for evidence, Kelly said.

A nearby resident described the scene.
"I heard shots fired, and then once I heard the shots fired, the dogs took off because they're scared of fireworks," said Edwin Gill.
Gill, who installed the nearby surveillance cameras that the Sheriff's Office used to capture the suspect, said he saw one man jump out of the passenger seat of a vehicle and open fire on the victim.
The Sheriff's Office did not identify the victim or the suspects.
