Scene Clear After San Jose Police Officer Reports Hearing Gunshots Near Elementary School

Students at a San Jose elementary school were ordered to shelter in place Friday afternoon after an officer reportedly heard several gunshots in the vicinity, police said.

Shots were fired in the creek area behind Stonegate Elementary school around 1:30 p.m., according to police spokesman Enrique Garcia. 

Officers searched the creek, but were unable to locate any suspects or victims, Garcia said.

As of 3:45 p.m., students were being allowed to leave with parents who were coming to fetch them, Garcia said.

Around 4:10 p.m., officers were said to be clearing the scene.
