Thousands of San Francisco Students to Walk on ‘International Walk and Roll to School Day’

Thousands of schoolchildren are set to walk to school Wednesday in San Francisco as they celebrate International Walk and Roll to School Day.

Parents, students, the mayor and other city leaders will start gathering at 7:45 a.m. at the Richmond Library at 351 Ninth Ave. for a warm-up before leaving at 8:15 a.m. in their "Walking School Bus" for PeabodyElementary at 251 Sixth Ave.

Citywide, more than 90 schools and 13,000 students are expected to participate.

One person will be caped and masked as the Vision Zero Hero, the mascot of the city's Vision Zero goal, which is to end all traffic deaths by 2024.

Many supervisors are expected to walk in their districts with students.
