What Was That Smoke in the East Bay?

Mysterious smoke causes concern

A massive plume of smoke rose through the sky over Rodeo, causing commuters in their cars and people across the Bay Area to question, 'What is that smoke?'

A pile of flaming cars is the culprit. At least two dozen cars were on fire.

The NBC Chopper caught the view as flames shot out of the rubble of cars, tires and scrap metal at the sprawling junkyard.

The fire was reported at 3 p.m. at 700 Parker Ave. which is the Pinole- Rodeo Auto Wreckers.

A hazmat team from Contra Costa County is taking air samples. But there is no need for a shelter in place they say.

It's not clear right now how the fire started.

No injuries have been reported.
