HOW TO MOVE... in expeditious fashion from September into October? It doesn't require a steam-powered flying machine, the kind with a bunch of doodads and whirligigs, to make such a leap. Nor do you need a magic pumpkin to transport you between months, the kind of gourd that seriously goes, whether by wheels or wind. For the fact is that we do enter fresh months quite easily, without steam-marvelous devices helping us out. But steam shall connect the months of September and October, at least in theme, and at least in Felton, at Roaring Camp Railroad. For that's where the annual Harvest Faire & Steam Festival will be happening, on Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1, and while you don't need to be there for both days, you might feel inspired to make a weekend of it, what with the old-timey to-dos and Steam Train rides and Make & Take Scarecrows. Should we say that again? We think we shall:
MAKE & TAKE SCARECROWS... is one autumnal activity on the weekend-long schedule, but if riding a train, picking out a pumpkin, gold-panning, watching a blacksmith demo, or a print shop demo also appeal, you'll have a full Felton outing, indeed. As for the "steam" in the name? You'll be invited to "(b)ehold a variety of steam and belt-powered equipment on display." Getting in is as free as the wind through the area's pretty redwoods, but if you want to board the Steam Train, do bring money for that. And if your tot rides the Steam Train, too, and shows her ticket? She'll get to pick out a free pumpkin from the Harvest Pumpkin Patch. Steam, scarecrows, squash, sunshine, and a generally convivial atmosphere will take fall fans straight from September to October, over one whimsical weekend, at Roaring Camp Railroad.
