A Selma, Alabama pastor and members of his congregation have been hailed as "heroes" for disarming an alleged gunman who police say tried to kill his girlfriend and infant son inside a church, NBC News reported.
James Junior Minter allegedly opened fire Sunday at the Oasis Tabernacle Church. Pastor Earl Carswell was shot and injured when he tried to subdue the 26-year old. Minter’s girlfriend and son were also injured.
Minter fled the church but was arrested later, police said. He was captured by officers less than a mile away from the church. He was arrested on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder, according to a statement from Selma Police Department.
Minter's girlfriend and child have not been identified by police.
